When creating content for your website, the main question that you need to ask yourself is “How will this help my search rankings?”. While optimizing your site for specific keywords is an important aspect of SEO, it is also important to follow best SEO practices. This includes creating unique content, writing content that contains your key keyword, but not too much, and more. Rank Math is an essential on-page SEO tool. Rank Math Best Use

If you use Rank Math as your SEO plugin, you’ll notice an assigned SEO Score every time you create a page or blog post. This score is calculated based on a variety of factors that can help you improve your SEO rankings. While you might believe that 100/100 should be your goal, it is not always possible. Even Rank Math has stated that the score is a guideline and should not be considered a target and that it does not affect your actual rankings. It should be treated as a list of tasks, not as a goal. Do not try to live by the test and don’t do it religiously.

It can serve as a guide and help you meet the essential SEO requirements. This blog post will take a look at the Rank Math list, which determines your SEO score. It will also be broken down according to the order they appear on-page.

Basic SEO

This content should have a focus keyword

If you are familiar with Rank Maths’ list, you will notice that this is the last point under ‘Additional’ but we’ll write first because the Focus Keyword is relevant to a lot the points in section one: Basis SEO.

SEO content should include a focus keyword. This is the keyword you want to rank for. As shown in the image below, you can add your focus keyword to the page. This will be used by Rank Math to verify a variety of ranking factors.

Top tip You can write around a keyword, so make sure you do this before you begin writing.

How can you determine what your focus keyword should look like?

It all depends on what content you are working on and how well your SEO keyword strategy is overall. You might target a slightly wider term if you are adding a product to your site. You should do keyword research if you are new to SEO. This will help you determine where you need to concentrate your efforts to reach page one on search engines.

Top tip Keyword usage should be natural. Use a mixture of short and long tail keywords. Always write for humans, not machines.

The Focus Keyword should be added to the SEO title

This is done to make sure that your meta title includes the focus keyword you have just chosen. This is the title that people see when they search for a keyword. Including the keyword the user just searched for will increase traffic to your website. This can be edited by clicking the “Edit Snippet” button in the screenshot above. It should not exceed 60 characters.

Include the Focus Keyword in your SEO Meta Description

Similar to the previous, the meta description displays in search results and describes each page. It is important to include the focus keyword here. This can be edited in the “Edit Snippet” section and should not exceed 160 characters.

Top tip Do not force it. Don’t try to make the keyword appear in all sections. It’s better to keep it natural.

The URL should contain the Focus Keyword

The ‘permalink’ is also known as the’slug’. Search engines will recognize your content if you include your keyword in this section. This can also be edited in the “Edit Snippet” section.

Note: To ensure that you don’t lose traffic if they reach the old URL dead-end, you must edit your URL after publishing the page/post.

The Focus Keyword should be used at the start of your content

Your focus keyword should be used in the first paragraph of your content, as well as in your on-page Heading 1 (“H1”) if you are able. This is a great way to show search engines and site users what your content is all about. However, it is okay to not include your keyword immediately. Instead, you can focus on the page’s natural use of it throughout.

The Focus Keyword should be used in your content

It is important to include your keyword focus keyword in your content. This will help you signify the topic of your page/post. Google and other search engines prefer to display relevant pages for people searching for those keywords. If you include only your keywords in the titles of your posts, how can a search engine determine that the content is relevant for a user’s query?

Top tip Keyword variations can be included in your content. This is more organic than keyword-stuffing, which is when you overuse your focus keyword to boost your ranking. Google actively punishes websites that keyword stuffing.

Your content should not exceed 600 to 2500 words

Google loves long content. Because longer content is more likely than shorter content to get backlinks from other sites, which in turn increases your domain authority. Higher traffic means more backlinks. Google’s RankBrain algorithm is designed for improving the ranking of content that is more relevant to users’ searches queries. Backlinks are a determining factor.

HubSpot’s study shows that articles that have a word count of between 2,250 to 2,500 get the most organic traffic. However, we all don’t have the time or inclination to write long and detailed content every day. Rank Math suggests that your content should not exceed 600 to 2500 words.

In subheadings such as H2, H3, or H4, use the Focus Keyword.

In the early days of SEO, headings (H1,H2, H3 or H4) were important ranking factors. Using your keywords here would have made your page appear in search results. Although this is no longer true, it’s still common to include keywords within headings. This allows you to demonstrate that your content is pertinent and may be the best place for some of your keyword variations.

As an alt text, add an image to your Focus Keyword

Alt tags are another way to indicate the topic of your content for search engines. Google and other search engines can use alt tags to describe the image. This can help you rank your page.

Top tip Be specific and descriptive about the image. Alt tags are a way to give context to your content.

The Keyword Density should be 0. The Keyword Density is 0.

This value changes as you add more content to your page. Rank Math scans all content on your page/post, and shows you the keyword density. This tool can help you avoid keyword stuffing, but again, it is up to you to decide what keywords you use. If it does not seem unnatural, there should be no concern.

Top tip Use similar keywords. Similar to keyword variations, search engines can recognize related keywords. You might choose to concentrate on the ‘Exeter” keywords if your shop is located in Devon. However, you can also mention nearby towns and Devon’ to help Google find your exact location.

This URL is not available. You can add a shorter URL

Once you add content, another point to consider is that it changes. Short URLs are preferred by search engines (anything less than 50 characters). If your URL is too long this will tell you to shorten it. Because users think longer URLs are spammy, and search engines want to offer the best user experience possible, shorter URLs will rank higher in the result pages.

Connect to external resources

Although linking to other sites and news articles can increase the credibility of your content, it is not always necessary. External linking, for example, will not help a page that is a product page about a handmade item. You might also want to include sources to support your information, such as reports from government agencies or projects.

DoFollow links added to external resources

DoFollow links are attributes that are added to your HTML to indicate to search engines that they will be able to follow the link they find. Google considers DoFollow hyperlinks to be highly credible. This can improve your page rank power.

If you link to other sources, a DoFollow hyperlink will indicate that the search engine crawling your site will follow that link and navigate to the external site. It will stop crawling your site. Sometimes, DoFollow hyperlinks are disabled by the webmaster. This is a site-wide policy. Talk to your web developer, or your SEO provider if you have any questions about DoFollow hyperlinks on your site.

Include internal links to your content

Internal linking refers to linking to other pages on your site throughout your content. This is a crucial part of SEO because it improves the user experience, assists with navigation, provides a hierarchy of information, and helps to spread your page rank power to other pages, ultimately improving your domain authority.

Title Readability

This section focuses on the SEO title, which is another name of the meta title. This section focuses on improving user experience and readability to improve click through rates.

The Focus Keyword should be placed near the top of your SEO title

This factor will give you an extra point for Rank Math’s SERO Score. The Basic SEO section suggests that you include your focus keyword within the meta title. This point focuses on including your keyword at its beginning. You can instantly communicate to search engines and users by including your keyword in the title. This allows you to show the content’s purpose and avoids any potential for it being lost on smaller screens.

Your title does not contain either a positive or negative sentiment word

Titles that contain a negative or positive sentiment word (such a best, amazing, fantastical, worst, terrible, and so on.) You are more likely to get a higher click-through rate if your titles include a positive or negative sentiment word (such as best, amazing, fantastic, worst and terrible). Because users are more likely to act on their emotions, it is a benefit for you to have your titles spark emotions. This isn’t necessary for your search rankings, and it is not always appropriate. For example, you wouldn’t expect a funeral home or bank to include emotional sentiments in their titles.

A power word is not allowed in your title. At least one

Similar to sentiment words and power words, they also trigger emotional reactions in people. This can increase your click through rate when you use them in your SEO titles. Power words are: “new”, “free”, and “how to”. It can also be very beneficial to use descriptive words or phrases to give people an incentive to click through to your content. Instead of saying “5 Ways to Clean Your Car”, a title like “5 Easy Ways to Clean Your Car when You’re Busy” is more likely to get a higher click-through rate, as it gives the user an explanation. This is not necessarily relevant to your content, but it’s nice for ‘extra points.

Your SEO title doesn’t contain a number

List-type content is highly effective in search results. Therefore, it’s a good idea to create content that follows these guidelines. This can improve your click through rates. This can be used to increase the click through rate for your SEO title by adding numbers that perform well. For example, “Book Recommendations for Kids” is less clickable than “Top 5 Book Recommendations for Kids”. This also informs the user of the information they can expect to find in the content they click on. This information is not always relevant to your content, so it will be most appropriate for blog content.

Content Readability

While the previous section focused on the readability and relevancy of your SEO title this section examines your entire content. Page rankings are influenced by user experience. If people visit your page and interact with it, they will recognize your site and reflect this in search results. These are just a few ways to improve the readability of your content.

To break down your text, use the Table of Contents

A table of contents is especially useful for longer content. It can break down pages so that users can easily understand them. You can also use a variety of plugins to make it easier, such as WP Lucky Contents.

For better UX and readability, add short paragraphs.

For some content, shorter paragraphs make it easier to understand and digest. This is not always the case so it is up to you.

To make your content more appealing, add a few photos and/or videos

Images and videos can enhance user experience and add a new dimension to your content. Images and videos may not be relevant on certain pages, such as your terms and conditions or privacy policy.
